    Design Challenge Partner Swap

This is a swap for the Hand Embroidery group. The idea is for everyone to work off of the same pattern and interpret it in their own way. When finished, it will be swapped with a single partner.

This is the PDF version of the "Floral Butterfly Pattern" we are using. Its original size is approximately 4 1/2" square.

We have been given some creative license with the pattern, so I've decided to edit the original pattern in Adobe PhotoShop. As you can see I've colored it and reduced it (to 2 1/2" square). These images I will print of fabric and attach to my block as siggies, then embellish and to some degree embroider. The finished block should be a minimum of 8" square, so there should be plenty of room on the block for both of these little beauties.

I've chosen not to embroider the entire pattern as to make it an applique. One, because I'm primarily a crazy quilter and embellisher and my skills at 'embroidery' are rough and virtually untried. Secondly, I would like to use the time available to pretty the block up. I also do not SRE. Not because I don't like it. I do. It's beautiful. The problem is that I don't know how to do it. Not just yet, anyway. LOL.

The block is supposed to be sent to our swap partners by 05/15/07. Looking at my calendar I see that that date is very close! Well, with that said, I guess I better get busy.

    Happy Needling!

That design is actually possible in just lazy daisy (det. chain) and stem stitch and French knots. You can do all those. It might take a while, though. Unless you are supposed to fill in all that inner part that you colored? I like it for a redwork design.
