More UFO's - Finished!

Good Monday Morning All!

Today I'm happy to share with you two wall hangings that I completed over the weekend. They both started out as round robin blocks that returned home just stunningly, beautiful and have sadly, been tucked away in my UFO box for way too long.

The first is from the CQI Spiders & Webs II round robin: January, 2009. (finished block size 16" square)

The block went out like this:

As each of the five ladies in the rotation worked the block, it transformed into this:

The second is from the CQI Hearts II round robin: January, 2009. (finished block size 18" square)

The block went out like this:

As each of the four ladies in the rotation worked the block, it transformed into this:

This was the first time that I used a stencil on the borders. I'm very happy with the way it turned out. No doubt I will be using it again!

Well, that's it for now. Hopefully the rods I ordered will arrive soon and I can get these pieces and my Water Goddess piece displayed in the office/study.

On The Home Front...

DH and I have been busy with home improvements - AGAIN! Or should I say, still? Luckily, this go around instead of construction and demo, we concentrated on cleaning up the drywall dust and mess from previous projects. Trying to keep on top of the dust around here became an exercise if futility. Needless to say, I lost my sense of humor about it and the clean up began.

We had our air ducts cleaned out on a Wednesday, and the carpets shampooed on Friday. There is no doubt in my mind that this was the first time that the ducts and carpets had been cleaned in this house since it was built. Gross and disgusting doesn't even begin to describe what was hauled out of here. But it's gone now and no longer a problem!

The only thing left to do was to go room by room and clean EVERYTHING in the house. And I do mean everything! Every room, closet, drawer, cabinet, you name it. Soap and water became my best friend for three solid weeks. And in the end...we are now nearly dust free!!!!! The side bonus is that we did a major purge (of clothing and stuff) and are now a lot more stream-lined and organized.

When I finished doing my HAPPY DANCE through the house I decided it was time to tackle another couple of rooms: First, turning DH's office (an upstairs bedroom) into a library, and second, moving his office downstairs into the study.

So, while DH was out of town, I made my list and I was off to buy paint and supplies to paint those two rooms (ceilings, walls, doors, frames, and baseboards).

Then we turned that spare bedroom into a library. Painting the walls a grayish blue was quite the stretch for me because I'm not a blue fan! But after we got the loveseat sleeper set up, the books on the shelves, DH's beloved "Wolf Picture Collection" displayed, and a little extra color spread around I was okay with it. In fact, I actually like it!

Of course both rooms still need window treatments which will come in time. Especially since I still need to make the window treatments for the basement windows. I'm hoping to get those started next week.

I share these photos with you because I'm am so very happy that I was able to get some of my dolls out of the closet and boxes during my cleaning spurt. I love this little girly room!

UFO Finish

These are a set of blocks that I started as part of a Season To Season block share on CQ4Newbies in 2009. I actually sent two of the blocks out but then reworked one of them after it got home. The other two I have been working on - off and on - for what???? Two years????











Fingers crossed that I can get them sewn into a wall hanging before I loose my momentum again. LOL.

Roses 3 RR - Nicki

I finally finished working on Nicki's block a couple days ago and got it in the mail to Lorrie. Nicki chose a pink and black theme for her block. What a wonderful color combination, huh? Too bad that I found my black silk ribbon AFTER I mailed it out. I think black roses would have been really, really pretty - oh well...

Anyway, here is what I added to her block. I hope she likes it :-)

A little apology here for running about a week behind schedule. I've been painting, decorating, and sewing again around the house.

Roses 3 RR - Ely

Just a quickie post to share Ely's block with you. This block is really cute in pinks with fairies. Again, I worked the lower left hand side of the block. Ely's block is now on it's way to person three in the rotation and I have Nicki's block to work.

CQJP 2012 - January

As you can see by the photo posted below, I have had a Change Of Plans on my project. I'm still working on the tree skirt but it just didn't work out for this project.

This is the first of 14 blocks that will eventually become a book. When I can find a set of batteries for my camera, I'll get some photos of all of the blocks and post them. I've also been taking photos and making notes for a tutorial later on.

You knew there had to be a spider and web! Although I'm not sure every block will have one. Each block is 7 1/4" by 9" (flap not shown) and are trimmed out by borders to a sewing area of 6" x 6". The blocks will go back to back to form one complete page.

For now I have met my deadline (for this month - LOL) and will keep plugging away at it. If you would like to see what others have completed for January, take a look HERE.

Roses 3 RR - Rita

Happy Saturday everyone! I'm just popping in to post a photo of the work I did on Rita's block.

This was a beautiful block to work on, and I always enjoy being the first to work on a block. Naturally, I worked on the left hand side. I won't restate the obvious items but I will point out those which are a little difficult to see in the photo. (Click on photo to enlarge).

The silk ribbon rose trail has tiny white beads running throughout and rests atop the 'net' seam work I added in pink. Notice that all of the butterflies, dragonflies, and lady bug are staying far away from the spider.

I realize that the spider is black and not necessarily in keeping with the color scheme - but I believe that a little black is a must for every block. The spider web is nestled among and attached to a semi-circle of white silk roses and white beads. And the bead enhanced ribbon is being carried by two little bronze birds, which are meant to mimic the birds in the fabric on the upper right hand side of the block. Sorry, but I cropped that part out...OOOOPPPPSSSS!

And finally, the red and green seam treatment running top to bottom is just a series of straight stitches and french knots. I hope Rita likes what I have added to her block. Today I mail it off to Lorrie in Canada so that she can work her magic on it.

CQ Gatherings - Winter Issue

It's out, it's out!!!! I bought my copy of the Winter Issue yesterday during the Cyber Monday sale. In fact, this is the only thing I bought (except for coffee and milk) for Cyber Monday but at least I made my contribution, right?


Now all I have to do is WAIT, WAIT, WAIT for it to arrive.....

Free Doll Pattern

I felt like I had gotten enough 'need to do' stuff done today so I've been surfing a bit around my computer. You know, looking at all the things that we save? All the possible, one day, maybe type projects and links we save? Or am I the only one who does that? I DOUBT IT! LOL.

Anyway, I came across a folder of free doll patterns that I've saved over time and remembered that, "I made that doll!" See post here. Notice that it was 5 Years ago! Good grief, where does the time go???? There are better photos here. I didn't win any prizes for my doll but I did enjoy the challenge very much. And I guess, technically, I can say that I've been published in the DOLL MAKING WORLD (VBG - realizing that anyone who really makes dolls is rolling their eyes and saying, "Paleez!"
