Dragon Tales - 2

I been tinkering with my dragon block off and on for the past few days and have made enough progress to post it.

I decided to try some of the ideas left in the comments of the original post and I think it's working out nicely. I used a shiny pink cording around the center piece and the gold rick-rack on the right side. At the lower right I've added what is supposed to be scales, ending in a tale. The upper left hand portion is supposed to be a thorn bush with red berries.

I've been tearing my supplies apart looking for other fun and different items to add and have run across a brass dragon and a few tiny daggers, which I might add. I've also been searching the internet for photos of swords, fairies, etc. I've even considered adding a couple of eggs.

But for now, I've put it aside for the moment because it just isn't speaking to me. When inspiration strikes again, I'll post an update!

BTW, this is post #300 for my blog! My how time flies. LOL.

Foggy Morning

No, not in my head...real fog. We get so much moisture here that it's not uncommon to find this in the mornings. The patio table just dripping, cushions and concrete wet, and even spiderwebs beaded up with water.

These doves were grounded for awhile. They just perched in silence, waiting. The squirrel took full advantage of the limited visibility and went about his business.

The moisture, humidity, whatever you want to call it, isn't all bad though. We get about 10 months of really nice (if not overly warm) weather. The trees retain their leaves most of the year and flowers often bloom year-round.

Well, I better get my chores started. I need to clean up my china cabinet today. I swear I don't know how dust gets inside of it. I also need to water and fertilize my house plants. Domestic goddess duties never end. LOL.

Oh!!!! One more thing. I drove yesterday. First time since my accident, and I was just fine! (Big sigh of relief)

Until Next time...Happy Needling!!!

Dragon Tales

I finally got bored enough yesterday that I decided to piece a block to work on. I had drawn this dragon head about a year ago and decided to see if I could sew it onto fabric. Originally, I was going to try and constuct a doll or stuffed animal out of it. But....

So, out comes the Press 'n Seal again and after about four hours, here it is! I have no idea what I'm going to do with the rest of the block. Or what I'm going to do with it when I'm finished.

Hopefully, some seam treatments, lace, beads, and maybe some ribbon will help make it less sinister looking. LOL.

If you have an idea for this block, please feel free to chime in.

Until Next time...Happy Needling!!!

An Adventurous Day

Yesterday Fritz went running up to this bird. It was just outside of the fence. I expected it to fly off but it didn't. In fact, it stood very close to the fence and just taunted my poor little doggy. After Fritz started barking at it, it moved even closer to him.

I swear, I thought this bird had a death wish. DH and I stood there watching this with amazement. The bird managed to stay just out of Fritz's reach.

I finally opened the gate and walked toward the bird. It didn't flinch. This photo is truly how close I got to it.

We finally got so tired of listening to Fritz bark and whine that we just brought him back into the house. The bird came through the fence and just hung out in the yard for awhile. Needless to say, Fritz went nuts!

When the bird finally left, we let Fritz out again and he finds a lizard in the process of shedding/molting (whatever). The lizard doesn't run away. Fritz smacks him on the head a couple of times and I end up putting the lizard up on the house to save its life.

The final straw for the day was when Fritz went after a couple of squirrels. And he darn near caught one of them by the tail. So, that was it for us. Too many close calls for one afternoon.

Before I took him in I asked him, "what were ya gonna do if you caught it, Bud?"

What do you think?

Until Next time...Happy Needling!!!

Yes, It Hurt!

My last posting date was February 20, 2008. Chances are that most of you didn't really notice. I mean, why would you? But this is what I was doing later that night. I wish I had been watching the eclipse instead! Or doing anything else at a full moon.

You wouldn't know it from these photos but my Jeep was in pristine condition. Nearly 10 years old and only 79,000 miles. This was my baby! DH ordered her special for me in May of 1999. She was my wedding present from him. I'm just heart-broken over this. It was really difficult to say GOOD-BYE to her.

For legal reasons, I can't say anymore for now. But I'm telling you, the last few months have just been really yucky! I'm so looking forward to getting my house sold and getting the hell out of Texas.

BTW, did you know that statistically, accidents, domestic violence, all sorts of crime, weird behaviors, etc., increase by over 50% during full moons? It's true. It's all connected to positive ions. It's called THE FULL MOON EFFECT. Look it up....it's interesting!

STS-Spring

This is the third of a four block share project that I am hostessing. Summer will begin in May and wrap up around July. I've had so much fun so far with this year long project. This is my first time as hostess and I feel so fortunate to have had such a wonderful group of artists join in. I give full credit to all of them for being so generous with their time and efforts. For their commitment and creativity. And mostly for meeting their deadlines. Thanks you ladies!

This block is my partner, Mary's spring block. I've just finished working my half of it. This was a great experience for me because I typically don't work with blues. But I took her lead, worked with the blues, and now I'm rethinking my likes and dislikes in color choices. Expanding my comfort zone. I guess everything can't be purple and green. LOL.

Here is the before

And the after

I used blue shiny beads for the spider body, and glitter thread for the legs. Silk ribbon for the blue flower/leaves and blue seed beads. The yellow and green ribbon at the bottom are supposed to be rose buds. Obviously I need more practice here. The charms are garden themed (one has a garden saying, one is a wheelbarrow, the other is a frog). And I sprinkled in some butterflies, dragonflies and a lady bug for fun.

The seam along the right side is one of those that you start without fully realizing what you're getting into. Had I realized that it was going to take 174 French Knots to complete the grape clusters, I think I would have worked them on a shorter seam. I will definitely keep that in mind for next time. The seam treatment at the lower left is supposed to be a fence. I'll keep working on that too. LOL.

But in the end, I really like the way it turned out. Mary says that she likes it too, so that's what really matters. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day!
